SJFC rounded off their season with a spirited display against an in form Meltham side. Right from the kick off Scissett took the game to Meltham with a gritty performance typified by another typical captain's display from Jack. With the in form Lewis keeping them at bay in goals, Tom and Declan closing down the Meltham attack at every opportunity, Conor and Jack dominating the midfield battle and Ben and Jake making a nuisance of themselves amongst the home defence, Scissett more than matched their illustrious opponents in every area of the pitch. They pushed forward in numbers but were just unable to finish it off with a goal that their build up play deserved. It was therefore somewhat against the run of play when Meltham broke away on their first real attack to take a fortuitous 1 - 0 lead into the break.
With Matthew now on for Declan at the back and showing his best form of the season, Scissett continued to push forward in search of the equaliser but just lacked that little bit of composure that would have bought their just rewards. With Fergus replacing Matthew at the back and getting in some solid tackles, chance after chance came and went but the ball just wouldn't go in the net. Now chasing the game somewhat Meltham hit us on the break to score 2 more goals in the last 2 minutes and give us a flattering final scoreline that our performance didn't deserve.

Final Score: Meltham 3 SJFC 0 Man of the Match: Matthew

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
