This was to be an interesting season as we moved from 2 u12 teams to a single u13s with a squad of 16.
We can now look back and say that the recipe worked, we unfortunately lost some players during the season - and gained some finishing with a squad of 14. All those players without exception have improved and continue to develop their football skills.
We started in the Tesco Cup in September winning our first leg and then going out of the competition to neighbours Kexborough. They managed through the season to beat us on both league meetings, however at our tournament it was Scissett’s turn for a comeback. We beat Kexborough that in turn gave us the trophy on the day – what joy! A similar story with Wakefield Utd – they invited us to entertain the crowds before a big game at their home ground stadium, playing against their u13s. It was great to play at such fine facilities with all players enjoying their moment – Managers and Coaches confined to the dug out and Technical areas’- but once again we waited for our tournament before we took a win from them.
Most of our 14 remaining squad have shown some great commitment during the season and in the closing months great battle and belief to win.
The Managers player of the season went to Jack Woods
While the players player went to Danny Firth (Captain).
Top goal scorer – James Lavy
We haven’t achieved as high a league position (9th) as hoped for but with the introduction of new signings (at great expense) and the determination of our regular squad I believe that the season ahead will be very exciting.
Thank you to everyone involved in ‘our season’ it’s essential to have a good team spirit to support a good team – and we have.
